The NCSC Board recognizes the fluidity of COVID-19 and its impact on hosting events in a public space. COVID-19 is spreading rapidly in Texas, and behavioral risk mitigation strategies are the best option for slowing its spread. This is especially important because mildly symptomatic individuals can transmit COVID-19 unknowingly. Given these considerations, coupled with a more unfavorable outcome of COVID-19 in older adults, we have decided to recommend against hosting the 2020 event.

The decision was a hard one and we took as much time as possible to allow for a significant decrease in cases in our state. Our decision on the hosting of the annual NCSC event is further affected by resources, which beyond our control, may not be readily available during this unusual pandemic time.

We trust you will understand this decision is in the interest of public health including visitors, performers, and volunteers.

However, in lieu of hosting a face-to-face event, the NCSC Board has approved the presentation of virtual sessions which will be available on Facebook or our You Tube channel. Details on these 2020 special presentations will be available soon on this web site. We appreciate your support of our event, and hope you and your family will come see us in person at the 2021 event!

The 2019 Parade of the Horse will take place in conjunction with the National Cowboy Symposium & Celebration®, Saturday, September 7th at 10:00am. The parade is organized by the Lubbock Saddle Club and features riding clubs and carriages from all over the South Plains region.

In the Old West, one animal served multiple purposes: pack animal, companion, transportation, and more. The horse remains one of the most recognizable symbols of Western heritage and continues to serve mankind the world over. The Parade of the Horse pays tribute to this majestic animal by featuring the horse as its focus. All entries in the parade include at least one horse, thus you’ll see horses of all sizes, shapes, colors and breeds.

The parade route is as follows: Beginning in the southeast corner of the Mahon Library on Avenue L between 9th and 10th Streets, the parade will travel one block south on Avenue L and then turn east onto Main Street for three blocks. The parade will then travel south onto Texas Avenue past the Lubbock County Courthouse for one block, then heads east onto Glenna Goodacre Boulevard for two blocks, then turns north onto Avenue O for one block on the west side of the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. The final stretch of the parade will proceed east onto Mac Davis Lane for four blocks, north of the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, before ending at the originating location.

Be sure and come early and bring the whole family. It’s sure to be a fantastic event!

The Lubbock Saddle Club meets the first Tuesday of every month at the SPEC building at 110 North I-27 in Lubbock at 7:00pm. For more information, please visit www.lubbocksaddleclub.org
